Good Things Happen To Those Who HUSTLE!

rottet studioAs  a designer you experience many different things in your career wether it’s living in a constant state of “thinking design”, or spending so much time on Autocad you might as well call it your boyfriend. You realize early in your career that design is not a 9 to 5 job.  I breathe and sleep design.  It is a constant thought on how to maximize my designs and finding different ways to bring a space to life by making it my own yet giving a sense of excitement to anyone who enters it. Skys the limit in design yet your biggest competitor is yourself.  It’s up to you how far you want to go in your career or how hard you want to push to learn everything you can to be able to stand amongst the best.

The past 4 years of my career have been a whirlwind and have seemed to fly by.  Those long 60 hour weeks seemed like eternity at the time but looking back I just remember how great it has felt to please my clients and make amazing relationships in the design industry.  These high points in my carrer make the long hours I slaved away on every design program possible seem like lost memories.  Through all the hard work I have always wanted to work for a large hospitality and commercial firm being able to work on projects all over the world.  The past year has been a bit hard for me moving across the US to Texas, and was having some second thoughts if design is really for me.  I woke up one morning and was so inspired by a readers email to me on how much I inspire her and she cannot wait to begin college to begin a design journey like I have.  She brought me back to all the reasons why I love design and why I started this journey in the first place.  I decided not to SETTLE as a current postion I was at and decided to make  CHANGE.  I decided to push hard and work for that DREAM job.

I recently accepted a job at Rottet Studio…my DREAM job.  As most people close to me may know, I am always someone to thank God for all the blessings in my life, and this is a VERY LARGE blessing that came at the perfect time in my life when I was doubting many things in my life.  This made me realize I will never SETTLE for anything less than the BEST fit for me.   Rottet Studio is one of the best firms in the world taking on projects throughout North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.  When I accepted the position I thought to myself, “Is this real life?!”   Looking back on long hours as an intern, to a junior designer, to an associate designer and all the craziness from people in the industry all paid off to get an amazing position with this firm. I am so excited to see what the future holds and the amount of talent I will be surrounded with during this carrer journey, especially learning from the fabulous Lauren Rottet. I am a prime example to always HUSTLE and strive for your dreams even if they are seeming impossible.  Even the most successful design firms started from the bottom and worked there way up to the top.  Most all successful designers started as design interns in the material libraries and worked there way up to learn the knowledge they needed to move higher and higher to larger design firms.  If I can give any advice to designers trying to chase the same dream I would tell you to NEVER GIVE UP and NEVER SETTLE.

No need to worry..I will still be giving practical design advice on Diva On A Dime Interiors every night!  I am hoping I can share my experiences in my carrer with you along this new journey as well!  I want to thank each one of you for taking the time to read my blog and be inspired as much as you inspire me!
