Inspiration: Statement Bathroom

diva on a dime interiors statement bathroom marissa iacovoni I am all about a good STATEMENT bathroom when it comes to residentail interior design.  In most cases homes have one main floor bathroom for their guests.  Great ways to bring a statement is through interesting mirrors, wallcovering, and paint colors that really bring a small room to life.  In most cases you will want the towels, and bathroom accessories to be sleek and clean in order to balance the space and not compete with other textures and shapes within statement pieces.  I always try to concentrate on key design rules : emphasis( statement piece), color, texture (shower curtain), balance, and ambiance.  As a designer there is always reasoning to how or why I pair certain items together to create a well designed space.  To get the look or for more information on product email me

The NEON Trend

I love everything about the neon trend. Reminds me of the 80’s and I have a weird obsession with big hair, neon glasses, and crazy make up.   Many people have a hard time grasping these bright items to add to their home decor.  The trend can be a bit overwhelming, yet adds a bit of excitement to your home of mostly monochromatic and neutral colors.
Getting with this trend is very “In the now”, but will also give a touch of youth and freshness to your everyday life at home.  This trend may pass quite fast but if you incorporate neon in the right places it will be a lasting look that can translate to any future design projects within your home.  I found some examples above of some ways to incorporate neon items in your home.  The inspiration board has several different looks where the trend was used in just the right places.  There is never a right or wrong way of doing things in your home.   You are the one that has to come home everyday to this place of serenity and relaxation.  Make your home what you want no matter what others opinions are.  Make your home be nothing less than YOU.

To get inspiration or find a color scheme for your next big room makeover, spend some time considering the world around you. Look at photographs to inspire the overall feel of the space.  Pick up on ideas from architecture, such as color combinations or the style of architecture. The goal is to pay attention to your surroundings finding inspiration  in things you find your attention being drawn too. Take note of any styles, color schemes or layouts that you may like so you can go back to this list when picking out certain furniture and finishes for your space.  I am ging to come up with a few different mood boards with furniture I found to compliment the look!  I hope this helps you create your own mood boards.

Romantic Deep Purples

Whenever I start a project for a client I go through 3 phases: conceptualizing, inspiration, and then I make final selections.  It is important to get inspiration from pictures, artwork, furniture, postcards, etc.. to get inspiration for a feel and color palette for your room.  above are pictures of each step and how my room came to evolve through these steps.  With this room, I was inspired by deep purples and black.  I added white at the primary color to keep the room looking sleek and modern then adding pops of color with purple and black in patterns and textures.  I love the cowhide rug because it gives this room an edge to its Victorian glam feel.  I have been getting lots of requests on using deep purples!  This should inspire you! Happy Shopping this weekend!

diva on a dime interiors ombre

Design Divas,

WHOS CRAZY FOR OMBRE!?! I don’t know about you girls..but I am in LOVE with everything ombre.  It is very trendy right now and there are so many fun ways you can incorporate this throughout your house!  First, you need to pick out the colors for your ombre.  In my example I chose different hues of pink.  I picked out these hues based on the inspirational photos I had of fashion, flowers, etc..  Once I found my colors I found there were 4 easy ways to incorporate this into my house by searching different blogs and sites for ideas!  You can do the following:
1) Paint ombre stripes
2) blend the ombre by taking a rag and blending the paint slowy into each other
3) Put books on a shelf in different hues of pink or the color of your choice all lined up to make a cool statement piece of color in any room.
4.)  You can also paint each drawer of the dresser a different hue light to dark going downwards.

I hope this inspired you for a fun DIY project this week!

Don’t Be Afraid Of COLOR!

COLOR can make a huge impact in any space depending on the hue.  The effects of color can be subtle and significant; physical and psychological.   Color is often underestimated how important it is to any space and can impact our moods too.
1.)  START SMALL-select a favorite color from inspiration such as a piece of artwork, a rug, vase and an accessory or furniture piece as a main color or accent.

2.)CONSIDER THE MOOD-do you want the feel at rest, peaceful, dramatic or intimate?

  • Soft, cool colors and neutrals =quieter feeling
  • stronger colors= drama.
  • Warmer, contrasting and somewhat brighter colors=sociable atmosphere; deeperblue-greens and neutral= formal ambiance.
  • intensely bright hues=lead to unrest and irritability in some children

3.)Lighting Plays a ROLE

  • Natural daylight shows the truest color;
  • Incandescent lighting brings out warm tones and yellows
  • Fluorescent lighting casts a sharp blue tone.

4.)Test Your Color Choice-Boost your confidence by testing colors on poster board or large areas of a wall

5.)Add Depth With Decorative Finishes -Transform flat, dull walls into interesting and personal spaces with subtle or dramatic visual texture

6.)CONSIDER other rooms-Walk into other rooms in your house and see how they will flow from room to room

7.)Play Up Monochromatic Schemes-Create bold or subtle variations within one color group with contrasting paint finishes. For example, use closely related colors, or try a single color in different finishes, for walls and trim in one space.

I hope this helps next time you are picking out color samples!  Feel free to write me if you have any questions!
