Community Awareness // Heather’s Story

Heather is an 8-year survivor of mesothelioma – a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure.  When she was diagnosed, she had just given birth to her little girl and was told she had only 15 months to live.  Because she beat the odds and is one of few long-term survivors, she is now on a mission to spread awareness of mesothelioma by sharing her personal story.

She told me, “If having cancer has taught me anything, it’s the value of life and the value of gratitude. My diagnosis was in November, and every year during the holiday season, I am reminded of this difficult time. Therefore, I have set out to acknowledge something in my life that I am thankful for every day throughout the month of January.”

This year, she decided to take her story to the blogosphere and this is where she found me. I’ve been so blessed to have been in communication with her and be a part in sharing her story.  This January has been a month of reflection for me.  Heather had asked what I am most thankful for..I of coarse said my family and friends but most importantly good health. Her story has put life into perspective for me.   The past few months, I have heard so many close friends have been shocked with news that there loved ones are sick.  Most days, I am so stressed with work trying to build my brands and work my full time job I forget to stop, take a breath, and realize what is most important in life.  Never forget to take time for your loved ones even during the most stressful times in your career.  They are the “positive vibe”s you will need to get through the toughest and best times in life. Let me ask you, What are you thankful for?

My Pin Boards // Cute Bakery/Pattisseries

well designed bakeries in the world diva on a dime interiors

This months pin board is dedicated to some of the most well designed bakeries in color and overall ambiance.  Your more than welcome to Pin the board and share with you friends for inspiration! See below for my insights on the exterior and interior design:

I absolutely love the color palette used for this bakery in London!  I am always looking for creative ways to incorporate great design with great color choice. This is a useful example for all of my followers! I love the rustic wood flooring and the off white paint used through out the space.  The colors of the actual cupcakes and cakes are what make the overall ambiance of the space come together perfectly.  The blend of light pinks, tans, and off whites make this a very harmonious space!

Laduree Patisserie: Paris, France
The mint green is used magnificently in this European Bakery.  I love how the boxes on the back shelves embark that same mint green color with pops of light purple, and deep purples.  The use of color in this bakery really has a “WOW” effect on anyone who enters the space.  The crown molding in a beautiful off white really brings the space all together.  This is a great example of an exterior really setting you up for an even more spectacular interior.

Back In The Day Bakery: Savannah, Ga
The use of pink and aqua makes for a fun flirtatious look.  I love the use of gold in the details with the chandelier depicting glass flowers.  You could get this look easily by bringing in furniture pieces in a light pink and aqua and bringing in the same gold through hardware and chandeliers.

Sweet Mandy B’s: Chicago, IL
Many Saturday mornings I found myself getting a sweet treat and coffee at this bakery in the Chicago neighborhood, Lincoln Park.  The yellow exterior always brought a smile to my face on the most dreary of Chicago days.  The bakery is hard to miss with its statement yellow and light pink features as you walk by.  I loved the use of turquoise on the banners above the windows that brought the color scheme, overall signage, and concept together.  There cupcakes are “TO DIE” (Amazing)!  I do have to say…I know sprinkles Cupcakes are delicious, but Sweet Mandy B’s are a grand competitor to Sprinkles.

2014. The Year Of Yes // Happy New Year

the year of yes marissa iacovoni diva on a dime interiors happy new yearLast New Years, Alexa Cunningham and I made a pact it would be the year of YES. We would live on the edge, travel, start small businesses all in the hope of changing ourselves to become smarter, classier, more successful woman. At times, taking chances and doing things out of your comfort zone can be discomforting yet the year of YES, and looking at things in a positive YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TOO attitude managed to make 2013 an exceptional year for me. Any great opportunity that came my way I said YES too. I managed to establish 2 successful brands BASH Event Design & Diva On A Dime Interiors meet two of the craziest cats I know Shayne Dalton & Lindsey Morriss DeLany who are incredible business partners.  I owe my success to them this past year for always pushing me to be a better designer and laugh while doing it. I am extremely blessed to have been hired by one of the most admired design firms in the world Rottet Studio working on the most high profile hotel brands in the world. The year of YES has been life changing. Say YES..you might surprise yourself.

I hope this year YOU find adventure and make it the year of YES… trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. Don’t let life keep you from chasing your dreams, don’t worry your dreams are not good enough, whatever it is..art, love, work, family, or life. Whatever you’re scared of doing..DO IT. 2014 is the year of YES. Happy New Dreams. Happy New Days. Happy New Desires. Happy New Ways. Happy New Year. HAPPY NEW YOU!!!

I can’t wait to kick your ass 2014!
